Reese grew up in Redondo Beach, California. He began surfing at the age of six, competing in the amateur ranks at age nine, and moved to Hawaii at sixteen to pursue a professional surfing career. Reese has travelled the world (Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, France, Japan, Spain, Portugal, England, Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Hawaii) competing professionally in longboard and shortboard events. He competed in the Pipeline Masters, OP pro Huntington Beach, and was on the ASP world tour for 5 years, reaching a ranking of number 4 in the world longboarding. Reese was one of the first people to surf Puerto Escondido on a longboard (with Joel Tudor) back in 1994. He was one of the inventors of the high performance longboard.
Reese is a dedicated waterman, certified lifeguard, and trained in CPR and First Aid. He has spent many years coaching up-and-coming professional surfers, as well as sharing his experience with beginners. Reese has dedicated his life to surfing, and wishes to educate beginner surfers in proper etiquette, ocean safety, and effective techniques to enhance their surfing experience.
CAYCE PATTERSON
Cayce McCall Patterson grew up in Laurinburg, NC. Her family bought a beach house in Ocean Isle Beach when she was eight years old. Her love of the ocean and water sports sparked her interest in surfing at age 13, and she began competing at age 18. Afetr receiving a BA in Biology from UNC Chapel Hill, Cayce went to graduate school at East Carolina University (escaping most weekends to the Outer Banks to surf). She graduated in 1998 with a Masters' of Physical Therapy, then moved to California to pursue her love of surfing. While in California, Cayce worked as a surf instructor, exercise consultant, and physical therapist. She also competed in numerous pro-am surfing events. She has travelled throughout California, Mexico, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico surfing. Reese and Cayce decided to move to North Carolina in 2001 after the birth of their daughter Codie.
Cayce is currently employed by Outer Banks Physical Therapy, as well as working in Camden and Currituck County schools with disabled children. She is a certified lifeguard, trained in First Aid and CPR. She wishes to share her knowledge of surfing with to make a beginners' first experience safe and successful.
CODIE PATTERSON
Codie shares her parents' love of the ocean and has been surfing since 18 months old. She won 2nd place in the East Coast Wahine Championships Novice division this year, and made it to the semi finals in the girls division.
LINDSEY LEWIS
Lindsey is a rising Junior at Appalachian State University. She is studying to be an Athletic Trainer. Lindsey has been an instructor for 6 years.
KARSON LEWIS
Karson is a rising high school senior. She is an avid long boarder and has been an instructor for 6 years.
MICHAEL UZZELL
Michael is a rising junior at UNCW. He is a very experienced surfer and has been an instructor with Ocean Isle Surf Academy for 5 years.
JACKSON STARLING
Jackson is a rising Junior at NC State University. He has been with Surf Academy for 6 years.
